What next?

Hello everyone,

It's been a few months since my last article on CFA studying. now that the results are out, I thought it's time to update the blog with a couple of more tips on what to do next.

For those of you who passed the exam, congratulations! and I hope you guys have registered for the next level of exam by now to take advantage of the fee discount. The passing of an exam was truly a steroid injection that boosted my damaged confidence, this was not a bad thing, especially when i moved on to level 2. I felt the momentum was right and the linkage between level 1 and 2 was more relevant than that of level 2 and 3. so if you are still considering I recommend to go ahead and register for the 2nd or the 3rd exam. Afterall, you still have over 8 months to prepare.

For those of you who didn't pass the exam you were studying for, I am sorry but I couldn't stop here. A couple of my buddys recently told me about their exam result, they sat for different exams on the same day, one for level 1 and the other for level 3. The guy who did level 1 passed with flying scores, this was his second attempt at the same exam where he failed miserably the first time last December. I've given him some of the guidance that is illustrated in this blog here and now he passed with every subject above 70%! I don't imply that I should take any credit of course of someone who put in hundreds of hours of reading and practicing, what i want to say is everyone can pass these exams if they put in enough time.

Unfortunately, the guy who did level 3 failed the morning session which plays a vital part in the entire exam. It takes a lot of practice and understanding of the philosophy of the exam to get through the morning session. I encouraged both guys to register for the next exam date and only given them one piece of advice, stay with what works for you. In both cases, they've passed the 1 or 2 CFA exams already. Presumably, they've realized certain patterns in their studies that prove to be effective. (In case this is the first post you read on my blog, take a look at the older posts for more details on my recommendations). I would expect the same for the readers of this blog. Take 10 minutes, sit down and think about how works best for you, this is what you should do for your next exam.

See you next time.

Im so happy to see your blog updated, though I don't really need it now. I pass level 3, and I have to give your blog a lot of credit ! Me too, there were time I really wanted to give up but i kept going on. Thanks ! I think your strategies and tips were helpful. When I was burning out, I liked to read people comments, as it made me feel i was not alone struggling.
Even if I finish level 3, for sure, i will come back to your blog, just for the entertainment factor :)
Hope you will post more for others...my friend failed level 2 and says he will read your blog! :)
Thanks again ! You should write a book about your journey.
Anonymous: which city are you applying for the product manager job? In the company i work, CFA is a plus but not requirement for product development manager. For many years I try to get a product development manager job even when there was internal opening, they didn't select me. Maybe now with all the cfa levels , they will consider when there is an opening.

Hi, I have passed level 1 about10 years ago and I can't remember any topic. I'm considering to take level 2. So I was searching for tips and I came across your blog. I really like your blog. I'm bit sure if the tips is helpful as I haven't tested , but having done level 1 , I found your explanation on any topic related to level 1 especially the bond and yield curve extremely clear. You made me want to study level 2 now. So I was wondering if you gave any shortcut on level 2? I'm also willing to buy any summary you have on level 2. Do you have a direct email? Thanks your blog is not just helpful but a huge inspiration.
